Query : I want some information about your Diploma Course in Railway Engineering.
Reply : It is a correspondence Course comprising of 2 Semesters of Six months each.
   
Query : Is it job oriented ?
Reply : No. It is for disseminating knowledge regarding working of Railways. However, it is an additional qualification for obtaining a job in Railways as well as Public Undertakings and private units associated with it and for promotions in the organisation.
   
Query : Who can apply for this ?
Reply : It is open for admission to both Railway and non-Railway persons.
   
Query : What will be the fee for the whole course ?
Reply : At the first instance admission will be given to first Semester only. Fee payable by Railwaymen is Rs.2000/- and for non-Railway person is Rs.2400 + 18% GST.
   
Query : When can I be admitted to Semester-II and what will be the fee ?
Reply : After appearing in the examination of Semester I. Fee will be Rs.2500/- for Railwaymen and Rs.2900/- + 18% GST for non-Railway persons for Semester II.
   
Query : Will I have to pay separately for study material, examination fee ?
Reply : No. Fees paid at the time of admission are inclusive of examination fee and study material.
   
Query : Do you conduct classes for Coaching ?
Reply : Yes, Contact Classes are arranged at Delhi. These are not compulsory, but optional. You will have to pay Rs.3000 + 18% GST extra if you opt for this.
   
Query : Will I have to send separate Bank Drafts for Tuition Fee and Contact Classes ?
Reply : You can send a consolidated Bank Draft for all types of fees or pay separately as convenient to you.
   
Query : I am an Intermediate/Senior Secondary (Plus2) with Science. Could I join the course ?
Reply : No, it may be clarified that the requisite qualifications for admission of Railwaymen as well as outsiders are:
 
1. Non-railwaymen should possess either of these qualifications:
(a) Minimum 3-year Diploma in any Engineering Discipline from any Polytechnic duly recognised by Central/State or Union Territory Governments.
  Note: Equivalent Certificates from ITI's are not acceptable.
   
(b) B.E./B.Sc. or a graduate (B.A./B.Com) having Science or Maths as one of the subjects at Intermediate/SSC (Plus 2 level)
   
2. For Railwaymen:
(i) Either of the qualifications as indicated above under (a) and (b) for non-railwaymen and also.
   
(ii) High School/SSC or equivalent qualifications with minimum three years experience in Railways.
Query : I got admission to DRE Course last year, but could not appear in Semester I Examination. Could I continue the studies in the current course ?
Reply : You can apply for Supplementary Examination by paying a fee of Rs. 200 + 18% GST per subject and Rs.1000 + 18% GST for all subjects.
   
Query : I took admission to Sem.II of the Course, but could not appear in the 2nd Semester examination last year. Could I appear in the supplementary examination this year?
Reply : You can apply for Supplementary Examinaton by paying a fee of Rs. 1000 + 18% GST.
   
Query : Is passing of all subjects necessary in both Semesters ?
Reply : Yes, but if you could not pass all subjects in any of the Semesters then, you will have to clear the subjects in which you failed by taking admission to the Supplementary Examination conducted in combination with regular examination every year. Supplementary examination will be conducted along with regular examination and exclusive supplementary examinations can be conducted depending on the number of failures.
   
Query : I want to have full knowledge about syllabus and other aspects of the course.
Reply : For this purpose you will have to buy a Prospectus in next academic session at the cost of Rs.100/- which is available at our office address by paying cash or sending a Bank Draft of Rs.150 (postage inclusive) equal amount and a self addressed envelop with stamps of Rs.15/- affixed on it. It can also be obtained from our Associate Office in Section Engineer (Works) Office complex at Baroda House, New Delhi.
   
Query : How long it will take if as per your specifications, I send a Bank Draft of Rs.150/- alongwith a self addressed envelop to obtain a prospectus by Speed Post from your Institution.
Reply : Requisition of Prospectus from candidates with Bank Draft of Rs.150/- are immediately dispatched to them by enclosing the same in the self addressed envelop sent by them. For this purpose post office in your area may be contacted.
   
Query : How is Study Material sent by your office?
Reply : By express registered parcel.
   
Query : When and in which month of the year examinations of Sem. I and II take place?
Reply : Examinations of Semester I & II are fixed normally in the months of February and December respectively each year.

The Institution of Permanent Way Engineers (India) is a technical body under the auspices of Ministry of Railways for sharing knowledge and experience of various Railway Engineers connected with Permanent Way (Railway Track), bridges and other structures and to keep the members abreast of the latest developments and instructions in the related fields.

When and where was IPWE set up?

Reply :

The Institution was formed on May 18, 1967 with its Headquarters at Pune. It was shifted some time back to Railway Board's office to have better liaison with all concerned.

 

 

Query :

What are the main objectives of IPWE and how they are achieved?

Reply :

The main aim of the Institution is dissemination and sharing of technical knowledge relating to design, construction and maintenance of Permanent Way, bridges and other structures amongst the persons associated with it. To this end, the Institution promotes and arrange, seminars, discussions on technical papers, exhibition and organises lectures on technical subjects and publishes a periodic Technical Magazine to circulate technical information to facilitate interchange of ideas. About five years back a Diploma Course in Railway Engineering was started to enhance the technical knowledge and know-how of Railwaymen and also to train future Railwaymen in the field ofCivil Engineering.

How is the Institution administered?

Reply :

The Institution is administered by a Governing Council which works under the overall guidance of President, Member Engineering, Railway Board and Ex-Officio Secretary to Government of India is the President of this Institution. Additional Member Civil Engineering, Railway Board is the Ex-Officio Vice President of the institution and the Principal Chief Engineer of Northern Railway is Ex-Officio General Secretary.

There is also an Honorary Treasurer who is nominated by the President. The secretariat of the Institution is located in Rail Bhavan, New Delhi and is headed by the Executive Director/IPWE  .

The activities of Institution are spread over Indian Railways and there are 18 Centres with their jurisdiction over the respective Zonal Railways, RDSO and IRICEN. Principal Chief Engineers of the Zones are the Chairmen and Chief Administrative Officers are the Co-Chairmen of their Zonal Centres.

There are Divisional Centres at each of the Divisional Headquarters of the Zonal Railways for disseminating knowledge at the grass route level.

 

Details About Diploma Course

The Institution of Permanent Way Engineers (India) invites applications for admission to the Correspondence Course of Diploma in Railway Engineering for the academic year 2017-18. The Course comprises of two Semesters of 6 months each. Completion of this course will advance the knowledge of different disciplines of Railway Engineering and will also make the candidates aware of the structure and functioning of Indian Railways.

The eligibility criteria for this course are as under: 1. Eligibility :

(a) Non-Railway persons: The applicant should be a 3-year Diploma holder in any discipline of Engineering recognized by Central/State or UT Government or a Science/Engineering Graduate or a Graduate with Maths/Science as one of the subjects in Intermediate/Plus 2 of S.S.C.

(b) Railway Personnel including employees of Konkan Railway, Port Trust Railways, CONCOR, RITES, IRCON, CRIS, DMRC,RVNL,DFC, MRVC and other Railway PSUs are included in this category: The applicant should be having any of the qualifications as prescribed in respect of non-Railway persons as (a) above or having passed High School/SSC or possessing equivalent qualification with Maths/Science and having a minimum of 3 years experience in Railways.

(i) Prospectus containing the application form along with other details can be obtained from the office of IPWE (India) at the address given above or at our associate office in Baroda House, New Delhi, either in cash by paying Rs.150/- or by sending Bank Draft of Rs.200/- (including postal charges) in favour of IPWE (India) payable at New Delhi along with a self addressed envelop size 25cm x 15 cm.

(ii) Alternatively eligible non-Railway candidates can apply through email for admission to Semester-I of the course by sending a DD of Rs.3100/- in favour of Institution of Permanent Way Engineers (India), New Delhi. Admissions will start from 1st July 2018 and the last date for receipt of Application Forms is 31st August 2018.

What are the type of Memberships of I.P.W.E. ?

Reply :

The membership of the Institution comprises of three categories - Honorary, Corporate and Non-Corporate. The Honorary membership comprises Hony. Fellows. The Corporate Membership comprises Fellows, Members, Associate Members and the Non-Corporate Membership comprises Affiliate members, students and subscribers.

 

The Corporate Members are selected from Permanent way men subject to certain qualifications & experience as well as membership fees as prescribed in the Institution bye-laws. Once selected as Corporate Members, they are entitled to affix the following degree after their names:

Institutional Corporate Membership of Firms & Organisation etc.

   
 

In order to share the knowledge of Permanent Way Engineering, Bridges and other structures with the manufacturers and suppliers of the concrete sleepers and track components as well as with Zonal Railways, consulting firms, other technical bodies and technical Institutions etc., the IPWE has extended the membership to them also as Institutional Corporate Members and Associate Corporate Members.

 

The Institutional Corporate Members have to pay one time fees of Rs.1,00,000/- and the Associate Institutional Members Rs.60,000/-. These members are entitled to get free technical literature and one or more members (depending upon the type of membership) are invited to each Seminar and exhibition for exchange of sharing of ideas. The Institutional Corporate Members will also have an opportunity to present and publish papers in the seminars as well as in the technical magazine to be issued by IPWE.
